Three2Six Project

Poems written by our children will be displayed at an exhibition organised by The Poppy Collective in the UK. We are very excited to be a part of this event and hope this wonderful initiative that intends to share the voices of refugees will reach as many people as possible. Make sure to go if you are in the UK 🇬🇧

All the best to The Poppy Collective at tomorrow’s event!Preparations continue for our outdoor art installation this coming Sat 9th Nov outside Dorking Museum.

A main component of this event is to ‘give voice’ to refugees and offer passers-by the creative opportunity to find and use their own voice – to type away a stream of thoughts or poetry based on what the art installation inspires in them – then add it to the collective ‘bigger picture’ by pegging it up for others to read, and inspire others to write their own… and so it continues, as one creative act inspires another and another.

We are pleased to announce that we have partnered with Three 2 Six Project in South Africa – an educational bridging project for refugee children. Three 2 Six is hosted at the alumni school of The Poppy Collective’s founder. The school opens its doors and shares its resources with refugees and provides opportunity for adults, also refugees, to continue to teach. www.three2six.co.za/
If you are a teacher, please check out their website, for this incredible lesson plan resource: www.three2six.co.za/ttr-2/

Tonight we are reading through the poems written for Saturday to be added to the installation, written by children 7 years up. We are blown away, we are humbled. Giving voice and representation to these children echoes the plight of refugees the world over.

In the face of calamity, growing empathy and cultivating response-ability is the aim of these projects in line with the Dorking Museum exhibition "You, Me and Those Who Came Before" running until Jan 2020.

Sharing here the poster for Saturday 9th Nov event, which is free and family-friendly.

As for 14th Nov evening event at 6:30pm, "Playing with Words", with special guest Sir Erich Reich (whose biography begins with a poem of his own), please buy your tickets soon: www.dorkingmuseum.org.uk See MoreSee Less

And don’t miss the heart-warming testimony of one of our former holiday program volunteers…Our Holiday Program volunteer, Elaria, from Australia, worked for the first time in the program. She resumes the experience as really meaningful and with a lot of love.
"To see children blossom throughout the 2 weeks, to see them get attached to the volunteers and be open about their own experiences and life, was extremely rewarding. I am currently reminiscing about the times I showed a child how to write the word “love” and then being given a letter that says “I love you”. The love that I’ve been given by these bright, intelligent and loving children is out of this world and I am so so grateful for this experience".
